Stewardship and Sustainability

Community Engagement VISTA Eileen had a blast  revisiting her high school, Father Ryan, to give a series of presentations on stewardship to the junior Social Justice classes. These students have been exploring this topic throughout the school year, discussing how ordinary, everyday choices have a real impact on the environment around us. Weaving her past experiences with the Organic Prayer Program at St. Mary's and  Permaculture School in Asheville, NC with her current work at Urban Green Lab, she connected how stewardship is a practice that must be actively cultivated like any good habit- just as Urban Green Lab is working to usher in a culture of sustainability in Nashville. She was impressed with the level of involvement and interest in the students and is excited by all the enthusiasm behind recycling initiatives and gardening clubs at Father Ryan. Go Irish!
